Today we shall touch on one of the most asked topics for new home owners: How do I begin designing my own interior?
Choosing and designing your own interior is no easy feat. It involves a lot of coordination and work to make your interior not look 'obiang' (ugly in singlish). Luckily ted is here to save the day again with our surefire 3 easy step to confirm-pass interior.
Step 1 : Decide on the Theme
Deciding on a theme is the very first step to the start of your interior design journey. It helps set the pace and determine which direction your interior design will take. By selecting a preferred theme you have effectively set the groundwork for the next 2 steps while ensuring that your furnishing do not clash with your design. Some of the common themes to help you get started are: Contemporary, Industrial, Modern, Minimalist, Retro, Rustic, Scandinavian, Victorian. Do note that it is possible to mix different themes but it will be difficult and may require a lot of creativity juices to pull it off.

Step 2 : Decide of the Space Functionality
Now that you have decided on a theme, it is time to select the uses for each rooms. Some rooms are set as they are where key installation are located. Examples are toilets and kitchens where gas pipes and water drainage has been pre-installed beforehand. For other rooms like study room, library, master bedroom or even home office, feel free to assign a room that you think works well. A combination of 2 rooms is a possibility too as I have seen people combining their home office with the library or a study room with the bedroom. Once you have assigned the space to its function, do take note of its specifications in order to order the right furnishing size. if you're not good with space and measurements, it's time to look for a interior designer!
Step 3 : Match furnishing to theme
The last step is to match the furnishing to your interior design. The ideal way to do this is to find furnishing that either has complementary tones and colours to the interior or to buy furnishing that suits well with certain theme. At this point, your selected theme will help guide you and ensure that you do not buy any furnishing that will seem out of place.

Do note that customized carpentry is expensive. It is up to your individual judgment if something requires being custom made. Do not follow the crowd and go for custom carpentry just because someone did so. Always focus on practicality and your budget.
