Let’s admit it: it can be quite overwhelming and stressful to cram all your things into a tiny apartment. Some people may have even suggested that you need to get rid of your stuff. While that may be true, there are still hacks that can help you maximize your small space and fit your items. Below, we list down five of the best space-saving hacks for your small apartment!
1. Use multipurpose furniture.
This is one of the most ingenious and practical ways to save space. For example, you can easily find chairs in furniture stores that serve a double purpose of comfortable seating and storage. Just like in the bedroom above, you can also find wardrobe doors that double as mirrors to save space. There are also unique furniture sets for the bedroom that have beds, chairs, tables—even including wardrobes! These can be disassembled or assembled back into the compact set as needed.
2. Vertical is the way to go.
We tend to obsess over the floor area of our apartment – and we end up forgetting that we can maximize height. You can install high shelves; these will not only give you more storage space, but make your home look larger in the process, too. Just like in the example above, you can even add stairs and a loft (if you have enough ceiling height) to free up space. You can also make space in between the panels of your stairs for even more storage!
3. Organize, organize, organize.
Use storage organizers as much as you can, and use them everywhere! You can even consider hanging some racks on your doors and your closet. Buy stackable baskets and organizers to maximize both vertical and horizontal space. You should also make sure that you have as much shelves and storage space in your apartment as possible.
4. Find space in unlikely places.
Bed risers can be your best friend: they free up space below your bed so that you can put more stuff underneath it. They’re available in a lot of DIY and furniture stores. Spend some time scouting for space in other areas in your apartment – even the ‘awkward’ and narrow spaces can be turned into shelves or storage, just like the one pictured above. Get creative, and you just might find more space for your place!
5. Keep it light, clutter-free, and clean.
Letting the sunlight into your humble abode will make it seem larger and fresher. Clutter will not only constantly remind you that your space is tiny, but might be dangerous if you trip over any of them. To avoid this, make sure that your things are well-organized, and are as clean as possible. It may be sound like hard work, but the results are definitely worth it!
